This essay does not describe an existing computer program, just one that should exist. This essay is about a suggested student project in Java programming. This essay gives a rough overview of how it might work. I have no source, object, specifications, file layouts or anything else useful to implementing this project. Everything I have to say to help you with this project is written below. I am not prepared to help you implement it; I have too many other projects of my own.

I do contract work for a living, which could include writing a program such as this. However, I don’t do people’s homework for them. That just robs them of an education.

You have my full permission to implement this project in any way you please and to keep all the profits from your endeavor.

Junior programmers have trouble with the various Collections. When do you use put and when set to insert an element? What are all the different Collections for? This Applet is a amanuensis, like the conversion amanuenis to help programmer write skeleton code they can flesh out.

How does it work? The user selects the type of Collection, and the function they need to perform, and it generates sample code to cut and paste. Functions would include: create, create from array, add, remove, enumerate, search/lookup, sort, convert to array, There would also be a help function that told you the advantages, disadvantages and limitations of each Collection, which reference other better choices in various circumstances.

It mainly just bullwork creating all the examples. It is basically a great matrix of Collection x function containing lines of text. You just present the correct piece matching the selected Collection and function.
