This essay does not describe an existing computer program, just one that should exist. This essay is about a suggested student project in Java programming. This essay gives a rough overview of how it might work. I have no source, object, specifications, file layouts or anything else useful to implementing this project.

This project outline is not like the artificial tidy problems you are spoon-fed in school, when all the facts you need are included, nothing extraneous is mentioned, the answer is fully specified, along with hints to nudge you toward a single expected canonical solution. This project is much more like the real world of messy problems where it is up to you to fully the define the end point, or a series of ever more difficult versions of this project, and research the information yourself to solve them.

Everything I have to say to help you with this project is written below. I am not prepared to help you implement it; or give you any additional materials. I have too many other projects of my own.

Though I am a programmer, I don’t do people’s homework for them. That just robs them of an education.

This is website project for the politically minded. You could implement it with a Servlet or with a Java Applet. The Applet would have an easier to use drag and drop interface than the Servlet. You present the user with a list of alleged "crimes" of George W. Bush.

  1. George W. Bush lied about evidence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq in 2002-10
  2. George W. Bush got drunk since his election.
  3. George W. Bush took cocaine since his election.
  4. George W. Bush was complicit in the 9/11 attack on the world trade towers and the Pentagon.
  5. George W. Bush ordered kiddie porn videos made of childen being raped in Iraq.
  6. George W. Bush ordered the killing of over 100,000 Iraqi civilians.
  7. George W. Bush raided the Social Security fund in 2002 of $455 billion US.
  8. George W. Bush is a client of prostitute/pimp Jeff Gannon.
  9. George W. Bush raped Margie Shoedinger and her husband.
  10. George W. Bush ordered an anthrax letter mailed to Bob Stevens of the National Enquirer killing him in revenge for publishing pictures of the Bush twins rolling around drunk on the floor.
The visitor to the website orders this list several ways: After the user has submitted his orderings, checked to make sure he has not voted twice, then save them in your database, and update your statistical averaging totals. Then you can show the vistor the averaged orderings of all people who have visited the site.

To make the project more challenging, do some breakdowns, e.g. by citizenship, age…

Note we are not trying to measure the probabilities in any absolute sense, just the relative probablities, which should show less variation, e. g. A dyed in the wool conspiracy theorist will believe them all true, but not with equal conviction. A dyed in the wool Bush supporter will believe them all false, but not with equal conviction. They might agree, though, on the orderings.
