Sea Monkey : Java Glossary

The logo represents a brine shrimp, a tiny crustacean of the Artemia genus, sold as robust pets, sea monkeys in the 1950s also used as tropical fish food in home aquaria.

Out the box you need to:

• Pick a theme. The ones boxed with it are obsolete. I use the Orbit 3+1 theme. I like each of my browsers to look distinctly different so I can easily tell which one I am using. I have had to temporarily abandon it in Version 1.1.6 because it does not show the address bar, and it does not work with the standard install.
• Set up the association for Java Web start.

Problems

• It draws boxes needlessly around links that consist of an image plus text.
• It comes with a very nice source viewer, but it does not let you edit or hook up your own editor to View Source.
• Firefox 3.0.5, Sea Monkey 1.1.14, Safari 3.2.1, Flock 2.0.3, Chrome 1.0.154.36 and Opera 9.63 all have a “bug”. They will not render <col class="xxxx">s correctly. Avant 11.7, IE 8.0.6001.18241 beta 2 and IE 7.0.6000 render it correctly. The Opera people say this is a feature not a bug. The language lawyers claim the W3 spec says that the browser is supposed to ignore the color attribute from the <col class. Logically, I think the <col styles should apply to the entire column, but not to <th rows. In addition Firefox, Sea Monkey, Safari and flock also ignore the <col align attribute.
