PocketPC
Microsoft PocketPC is an operating system for hand hand devices typically with a StrongARM or XScale and a minimum of 32 MB of RAM. The Pocket PC Phone version has a cell-phone modem link. Currently Sun has released only a beta version of PersonalJava for it in 2001, and they have a Java ME implementation in the can unreleased Project Captain America, awaiting sufficient public interest to justify the investment to roll it out.

This is one of Java’s fortes (mobile devices). It would be a shame to let Microsoft monopolise another platform leaving the PocketPC without a freely available JRE. Otherwise, developers will be restricted to PersonalJava (equivalent to Java 1.1.8) on PocketPC, or commercial offerings such as NSICOM’s CrEme J2ME JRE which is is not sold in single licenses.
