IAP

Internet Aaccess Provider is a company through which you can attach to the Internet. In contrast, an ISP, Internet Service Provider, hosts your website. Sometimes the term ISP covers both functions since many companies provide both services. If you live in Canada, you need a Canadian company to provide access, but you can have your website hosted anywhere.

Things to look for in an IAP

High speed. Measure the transmission speed other customers are getting before you sign up. Don’t trust the salesmen.
Ask other customers about reliability.
Watch out for the fine print. Often low prices only apply for the first few months.

Setup

When your IAP comes to install Internet access, get him to help fill in a card like this with the relevant information you will need to configure your OS and applications and to talk to the tech support people.
