Avant : Java Glossary

Avant: A lesser known freeware browser. The current version is 1.7:40 Last revised/verified: 2009-10-22. It is full-featured and fast. I like it because it is unusually quick to start and it renders colgroup classes correctly, something few other browsers do. It also prints very accurate renderings. Most other browsers print a rendering that looks nothing like the screen. Firefox 3.5.5, Sea Monkey 2.0, Safari 4.0.2, Flock 2.5.5, Chrome 3.0.195.32 and Opera 10.01 all have a “bug”. They will not render <col class="xxxx">s correctly. Avant 11.7:40, IE 8.0.6001.18702 and IE 7.0.6000 render it correctly. The Opera people say this is a feature not a bug. The language lawyers claim the W3 spec says that the browser is supposed to ignore the color attribute from the <col class. Logically, I think the <col styles should apply to the entire column, but not to <th rows. In addition Firefox, Sea Monkey, Safari and Flock also ignore the <col align attribute. It uses the built-in Windows renderer that IE uses. That is why it is so compatible with IE. The UI is modeled on Opera.
