Who knows what my country (USA) will do about bin Laden. Whatever it is, it’s going to be ugly. I prefer to dwell on the wonderful people whose company I enjoyed when I lived in Saudi Arabia and the Emirates. They despised conflict, strove for accord, and were always ready to help when the need arose.
What would I do? I’d help (somehow) to create the Peace Lake, and then I’d fly to New York, fill a crystal decanter with the water, bring it home, and display it in our living room. That way, I’d see it every day, and I’d be reminded of the evil that exists and my obligation to be a better person.
As for you, Mr. Green, I pray for your continued good health. The very last thing that I want (or this screwed-up world needs) is for you to fall to your terrible illness. You mean too much for that to happen.

Thank you. I have been getting a lot of flack lately. I feel a bit like a physician trying to cut off a gangrenous leg without any anesthesia available. The patient is screaming in pain, cursing my soul to eternal damnation, but somehow I have to grit through it to get the job done quickly.
