gigahertz
A way of measuring the speed of computers. Often abbreviated GHz. 1 gigahertz = 1000 megahertz = a billion cycles per second. The bigger the number the faster the computer. It roughly counts how many additions per second. A 2 GHz CPU, all else being equal, will calculate twice as fast as a 1 GHz CPU. Of course, unless the chips are of very similar design, all else is nowhere near equal.
