breakout box

A box that lets you monitor the state of each of the pins on an RS-232C connection with LEDs. It also lets you wire up ad hoc cables to try them out before constructing permanent cables. More elaborate models can monitor prototols as well. You can rent expensive logic analysers that will capture signal activity, and data traffic and let you review it at your leisure.
